DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides basic maintenance and repair to structures, facilities, and equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment. Performs basic maintenance and repairs to structures, facilities, and equipment, i.e., housekeeping activities, fabrication and installations, routine cleaning and servicing of vehicles, and cement mixing and preparation. Operates power and hand tool equipment. Performs painting, roofing, carpentry, and plumbing activities depending upon area. May operate vehicles to and from work locations. Performs additional miscellaneous assignments as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns. This position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly request basis and /or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time.

This is a Department of Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIEREMENTS

Ability to read, write, add, subtract, and follow oral and/or basic written instructions as might normally be acquired through 9 to 11 years of formal schooling. No special knowledge of any subject area or technical field is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Six months of working experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Texas Class C driver's license and comply with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **
