This job involves supporting security operations for high-level Department of Defense offices, including advising on personnel, physical, and information security matters to protect sensitive areas and personnel.

Full Job Description

This position is located in Washington Headquarters Service (WHS), Security Enterprise Services Directorate (SESD), in the Integrated Security Operations Division (ISOD) & will serve as a Security Specialist responsible for providing WHS security support.

The SESD provides security support to senior managers in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, WHS, the Director of Administration & Management (DA&M) & to DoD, & Congressional & Presidential established boards, commissions, & task forces.

You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Interpret and apply knowledge of a wide range of security concepts, principles, and practices to perform security functions in a major area of security specialization (i.e.

personnel, physical, etc.); and Provide technical guidance in two or more security specializations (e.g. personnel, physical, information, etc.).

OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Assist with the development and implementation of security policies, plans, procedures, standards, and/or methods; and Analyze security problems and recommend action(s) to correct deficiencies.

OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR Combination of education and experience.

You may qualify at the GS-12 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Manage a security program; Develop/implement program improvements to ensure optimal administration and management of security programs; and Provide authoritative guidance to leadership and staff in various security specializations.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The SESD operates in a fast-paced, high demand environment, providing support to some of the senior-most leadership of the Department of War. Security responsibilities include Industrial Security.

Information Security, Operations Security, Personnel Security, Physical Security, SCI Administration, Mission Assurance, Controlled Unclassified Information, Insider Threat, Classification Review, and Counterintelligence Awareness and Reporting.

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Planning, designing, carrying out, and monitoring a wide variety of security projects.

Performing a broad range of security work that includes personnel, information, physical, industrial, cyber and communications security support.

Implementing policies, plans, procedures, standards, and methods for identifying and protecting classified and sensitive information, personnel, property, facilities, operations, or materials from unauthorized disclosure, misuse, theft, assault, espionage, sabotage, or loss.

Providing authoritative advice to appropriate personnel and serves as spokesperson for WHS on security related issues.

Serving as a point of contact for incoming and outgoing classified and protected material.

Implementing and monitoring policies, instructions, procedures, and methods for functions and activities such as: document marking, safeguarding and use, personnel access controls, need to know criteria, physical storage and controls, security education and training, and transferring, transmitting, reproducing, downgrading, and destroying classified information.
