Summary

This job involves working as a security specialist for the U.S.

Full Job Description

The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of California's mission is to investigate, prosecute and deter violations of federal statutes, enforce and represent the interests of the United States in civil litigation, uphold civil, constitutional and victims' rights, and foster partnerships with other federal, state and local government agencies and community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below: Utilizing security principles, concepts, methodologies, or practices to identify and resolve well defined security questions or conditions; Providing selected security services that protect property, personnel, facilities, sensitive and classified information, communications and/or computer equipment; Assisting in the development of security education and awareness programs.

OR Successful completion of one of the following types of education in a related field: a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B.

or J.D.); OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.

My education was obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.

(You must submit transcripts.) OR A combination of specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and I have at least one year of graduate education as described in B, which when combined equals 100% of the requirements.

To calculate your percentage of education, first determine the total number of hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study) then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study).

To calculate your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together.

The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. (Only graduate education in excess of the first full year may be used in this calculation).

To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below: Utilizing wide range of security concepts, principles and practices to review, analyze and/or resolve difficult and complex security problems; Planning and/or overseeing the installation and maintenance of all physical security systems, equipment, or building modifications necessary to ensure adequate security is maintained; Interpreting security guidelines to draft implementing instructions, that provide guidance to management officials and other specialists with security-related responsibilities.

OR Successful completion of one of the following types of education in a related field: a Ph.D.

or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.M degree.

Graduate level education must demonstrate the competencies necessary to do the work of the position.

Only graduate level education in excess of the first two years can be used in this calculation.

This Security Specialist provides selected security services to promote the effective protection of property, personnel, facilities, sensitive and classified information, communications and computer equipment and other resources against criminal, terrorist and hostile activities.

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Security Specialist support in the U.S.

Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Miami, Florida, focusing in the areas of security services, security education, and security awareness programs.

Typical work assignments will include: Serving as the District's Security Specialist with responsibility for participating in planning, directing and administering a comprehensive district-wide security program.

Assisting in developing, implementing, and evaluating plans, policies, procedures and methods for safeguarding personnel, property, information, operations, material, and automated information and telecommunications systems under normal and emergency conditions.

Conducting physical security site surveys, threat analyses, and vulnerability assessments based on well-defined objectives using fully established methods and procedures.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
