Job Description

Summary

This job is for a security guard at a Navy installation in Washington, D.C., where you'll check IDs, screen vehicles and people entering the base, patrol for anything suspicious, and keep detailed logs of security activities.

It's a good fit for someone with prior experience in security or law enforcement who is detail-oriented, stays calm under pressure, and can follow strict protocols to protect military facilities.

No advanced degree is needed, but one year of relevant experience is key.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04 level, including vehicle screening, access control, patrolling, and log maintenance
  • Ability to operate hand-held two-way radios and electronic scanners
  • Skills in providing technical guidance to entry control teams for vehicle and passenger checks
  • Capability to detect, identify, and detain violators of regulations, policies, or laws
  • Experience directing vehicle and pedestrian traffic during emergencies and peak hours
  • Familiarity with DoD directives, policies, and guidance for security operations
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass background checks for federal employment

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Screening and/or inspecting personal and commercial vehicles requesting installation access; 2) Controlling personnel access by verifying identification/credentials; 3) Patrolling buildings or perimeters for suspicious activity; and 4) Maintaining desk logs, desk journals, and pass-down logbooks to document security events.

  • You will operate hand-held two-way communications devices and electronic scanners while completing security work assignments.
  • You will provide technical expertise and direction to the entry control team which is responsible for conducting commercial, private and government vehicle screening and passenger identify checks.
  • You will be required to detect, identify, and detain violators of regulation, policy, and law.
  • You will direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during emergencies and normal rush hour traffic to ensure that the entry control process is conducted in accordance with published DoD and DoD directive, policy and guidance.
