Summary

This job involves handling visitor access to a military installation in Alaska, including checking IDs, issuing badges, and using computer systems to verify security information.

Key Requirements

Specialized Experience GS-05: One year of specialized experience which includes applying security guidelines and procedures to process requests for facility access; utilizing a personal computer to produce a variety of documents or respond to inquiries, and/or updating personnel security databases.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Major Duties:

  • Operates and performs research queries on the National Crime Information Center workstation terminal in accordance with federal and state laws.
  • Must identify and understand the issues presented by the supervisor or higher graded law enforcement/security staff involved in each assignment and determine what steps and procedures are necessary and the order of their performance.
  • Controls, prepares, issues identification badges, cards, and passes that allow access of personnel on to the installation, and at the discretion of the employee exercises authority to verify and authenticate installation issued badges.
  • Maintains a variety of files, access control registers, databases, and installation access denial approved packets, and records to provide control of sensitive information maintained.
  • Operates and maintains various items of access control equipment and automated systems to include computer equipment used in the identification and registration process.
