Full Job Description

You will serve as a SECURITY ASSISTANT (OA) in theSECURITY DEPARTMENT of NAVY WARFARE DEVELOPMENT CENTER. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

Your response to the typing skill question on the Occupational Questionnaire will be used in your qualification determination.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS=04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience performing clerical and assistant tasks in support of personnel, physical, information, and industrial security programs.

Experience working with personnel security forms or letters, such as: the SF-312 (Standard Form-Non-Disclosure Agreement), the DD-254 (Contract Security Classification Specification), and computer-based programs used for processing personnel investigations and clearance requests such as the Contractor Verification System (CVS) and the Defense Information Security System (DISS).

Experience analyzing and evaluating reports of investigations including those containing conflicting information or evidence.

Experience using data processing techniques and computer operations needed to maintain security related databases.

Experience using correct format needed for the preparation for Navy messages and official correspondence. The employee must be proficient in typing and word processing skills.

Experience using correct grammar, accurate spelling and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will receive requests for personnel clearances and access from departments, apply specific security regulations and instructions regarding the type of security check needed and initiate investigations by the appropriate government agency.
  • You will prepare and/or assist in the preparation of all necessary forms and supporting documents to have clearance granted, prepare and submit clearance certificates for NWDC personnel visiting other commands.
  • You will review requests for visits to NWDC with accompanying clearances using standard methods or web-applications such as Joint Personnel Adjudication System (JPAS) or the Contractor Verification System (CVS).
  • You will maintain listing of all clearances within the command and promulgate access lists to Naval Station, Norfolk and the NWDC Security quarterdeck.
  • You will maintain files on the status of security clearance requests that have been submitted for adjudication and employee clearances requiring updated investigations.
  • You will review and evaluate reports of personnel investigations and other data to determine if the person employed (or newly hired) meets security standards.
  • You will establish and maintain security reports, record and file computer listings required for facility access control, visitor control for DOD employees and government contractors and documentation needed for courier related requirements.
  • You will operate the digital badging system and LENEL Identification Camera system for preparing security ID photos, prepare official correspondence, draft and prepare memoranda and naval messages, input and retrieve data in security databases.
