The role requires at least one year of relevant experience and, for current federal employees, meeting time-in-grade rules.
This position serves as the principal clerical and administrative support position in the immediate organizational unit in or for which the persons assisted have responsibility, by carrying out and coordinating all the clerical and day-to-day administrative support activities which are typically required to accomplish the work of the organization.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-7 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. For a GS-8 position, you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-8.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below: GS-7 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing clerical and administrative support duties related to coordinating meetings; taking and transcribing minutes; following up pending actions; timekeeping procedures; preparing and editing documents; maintaining files/records; or other tasks related to secretarial work.
GS-8 Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: performing clerical and administrative support duties related to coordinating meetings; taking and transcribing minutes; following up pending actions; timekeeping procedures; preparing and editing documents; maintaining files/records; making and preparing travel arrangements; locating, assembling and composing information for reports, inquiries, and non-technical correspondence; or other tasks related to secretarial work.

Major Duties:
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Provides clerical and administrative assistance to the organization. Receives all visitors and telephone calls to superiors.
Determines the nature of call or business of visitors. Controls activities schedule and reminds managers of appointments.
On own initiative and discretion, establishes priorities; sets up, reschedules, or refuses appointments; accepts or declines invitations to meetings; and arranges for representation by a subordinate official when that is desirable.
Reviews correspondence and documents prepared for signature of, or requiring coordination by managers for conformance with regulations, grammar, format, and special policies of the installation.
Obtains information required by management from various sources within the VA, requiring a comprehensive knowledge of the VA's complex organizational structure.
Composes correspondence on own initiative, based on a knowledge of superior's views and desires.
Composes letters, endorsements, messages, office instructions, and reports, with responsibility for sentence structure, grammar, and spelling.
Writes resumes of conferences and gives copies to participants who are expected to take action as result of conferences.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met.
Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 7:30am-4:00pm Telework: This position may be authorized for telework.
