Full Job Description

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Product Support (DASW(PS)) is responsible to the Assistant Secretary of War for Sustainment (ASW(S)) for all product support policy matters.

DASW(PS) is responsible to the ASW(S) for the oversight of program sustainment, affordability, and life cycle logistics for major weapon systems acquisitions.

Candidates should be committed to improving the efficiency of the Federal government, passionate about the ideals of our American republic, and committed to upholding the rule of law and the United States Constitution.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS (TQs): Your resume should demonstrate accomplishments that would satisfy the technical qualifications: TQ 1: Demonstrated expertise in product support and acquisition logistics policy and oversight for major weapon systems, including planning and execution, analyzing life cycle logistics operational and sustainment costs, and devising practical solutions through integrated lifecycle-oriented strategies and co-sustainment approaches to ensure effective, affordable, and sustainable systems.

TQ 2: Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing enterprise human capital strategies, talent management initiatives, and workforce development programs to close critical skill gaps, improve workforce leadership, readiness, and performance that support logistics operations and sustainment goals.

EXECUTIVE CORE QUALIFICATIONS (ECQs): In addition to the Technical Qualification Requirements listed above, all new entrants into the Senior Executive Service (SES) under a career appointment will be assessed for executive competency against the following five mandatory ECQs.

ECQ 2: Driving Efficiency - This core qualification involves the demonstrated ability to strategically and efficiently manage resources, budget effectively, cut wasteful spending, and pursue efficiency through process and technological upgrades.

Sub-Competencies: Fiscal Responsibility: Strategically manages, allocates and monitors financial resources. Aligns priorities and initiatives to justify budget proposals.

Monitors expenditures, cuts unnecessary costs, and uses cost-benefit analysis to set priorities.

Managing Resources: Manages resources efficiently and effectively based on current and projected organizational goals, skills, budget considerations, and staffing needs.

Leveraging Technology: Explores emerging technology and potential applications. Incorporates technology to enhance efficiency and achieve results. Ensures access to and security of technology systems.

ECQ 3: Merit and Competence - This core qualification involves the demonstrated knowledge, ability and technical competence to effectively and reliably produce work that is of exceptional quality.

Sub-Competencies: Technical Skill: Possesses the requisite technical knowledge and subject matter expertise to consistently produce timely, high-quality work.

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: As the senior official with direct oversight of the Department of War's (DoW) largest functional community, the DASW(PR) has broad latitude and policy authority over the alignment of resources to agency objectives and strategic goals contained in the National Defense Strategy.

Ensures the efficient use of the Department's product support and sustainment resources to maximize readiness of major weapon systems and provide unapparelled warfighter support.

Serves as principal advisor to the ASW(S) and the USW(A&S) on matters of product support, sustainment, acquisition logistics policy and workforce, and oversight for all DOW major weapon systems and equipment; develops and proposes product support and acquisition logistic policies and procedures; provides product support planning and acquisition logistics oversight; and provides assistance to Allies and partners in the areas of early product support planning and management.

Develops policy objectives and supports programs in setting product support and sustainment goals to maintain inherent performance, safety, and reliability of DoW weapon systems and military equipment/materiel.

Serves as the principal advisor and representative for bi-lateral and multi-lateral international forums in support of leveraging partners and allies international product support capabilities in a contested logistics environment to include the implementation of co-sustainment and regional sustainment strategies.

Promotes the building of coalitions, both external with partner nations and internal to the U.S. government, through interagency executive steering groups.

In partnership with the USW(Policy) Security Assistance and International Community, assist partner nations improve the supportability and readiness of platforms and systems. Within the U.S.

government, focus on whole of government solutions to promote efficiency and avoid unnecessary duplication of effort and waste of resources.
