Examples of experience are: (1) working and assisting in carpentry, masonry, roofing, and painting tasks working on buildings; (2) assisting higher graded journeymen in the repair, reconstruction, restoration, or rehabilitation of wood structures by performing work on such elements as frameworks, rafters, doors, windows, floors, staircases, trusses and beams, interior and exterior trim, and roofing; (3) experience in completing both inside and outside finish work or rough carpentry; (4) restoration of historic properties and read construction documents when completing restoration and preservation projects.

Major Duties:
This position is based in the division of Science and Resource Management of Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and works within the branch of Cultural Resources.
Incumbent is expected to work with higher-graded preservation staff to assist in a wide variety of historic preservation tasks, including carpentry, masonry, plaster, roofing, and painting tasks while working on historic properties throughout Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.
Tasks are primarily associated with funded preservation maintenance projects for historic wood structures and prehistoric structures.
Incumbent receives on the job training and performs duties involving a variety of tasks to preserve the interior and exterior of historic structures.
The incumbent works with a variety of instruments and tools needed to perform historic preservation tasks, including carpentry, masonry, plaster, roofing, and painting tools.
Below are common daily duties: The incumbent must utilize both hand and power tools safely and effectively to complete projects, and keep and maintains tools in good working condition.
The incumbent performs semi-skilled duties, with may include surface preparing, cleaning, mortar or plaster mixing, minor repairs to stone masonry or painting work, and basic carpentry skills.
The incumbent will assist others in performing more complex work, such as stabilizing foundations, repointing walls chimneys, fireplaces or other building elements, more specialized carpentry work, and restoring buildings and structures such as retaining walls, fences, and rustic stonework using a combination of modern and historic techniques.
Duties may also include the preparing of interior and exterior surfaces for the application of paints, preservatives, or clear finishes to wood structures.
Work is performed primarily on historic and prehistoric age structures, where work must be accurate and care taken to preserve the original appearance and integrity.
This position is performed in both front-country and in remote back-country field locations.
Work is primarily non-sedentary, with moderate to strenuous field work that requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, reaching, and climbing ladders.
Some work takes place in remote back-country locations that involves backpacking and staying overnight in back-country settings for prolonged periods of time.
Remote work requires walking or climbing over rocky areas with uneven surfaces, and hiking in steep terrain with high elevation changes.
Work Incumbent must be physically able to lift 50lbs; to carry a backpack weighing up to 40lbs over rough, uneven terrain; and to work outside in adverse weather conditions.

The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100+ in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year.
