The Museum Technician supports the care, preservation, documentation, and accessibility of museum collections at Colonial National Historical Park.
The position performs a full range of technical curatorial duties, including cataloging, preventive conservation, environmental monitoring, exhibit support, and assisting researchers and staff.
Work directly contributes to the long-term stewardship, interpretation, and protection of the park's cultural resources.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).
If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).
This experience includes activities such as: assisting with cataloging museum objects; handling, cleaning, and storing museum collections; maintaining accession, catalog, or loan records; monitoring environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and pests; assisting with exhibit installation or maintenance; or supporting curatorial projects such as backlog cataloging, storage reorganization, or archival arrangement.
You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full academic year of graduate-level education related to the position.
Related fields include museum studies, history, archeology, anthropology, art, natural science, or other directly related disciplines.
-or- Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA).You must include transcripts.
-OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.
To combine education and experience, first take the percentage of specialized experience you have (number of months of full-time experience divided by 12 months).
Then take the percentage of graduate education you have completed beyond the first 9 semester hours. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

This approval can extend the time limitation to 1560 hours for this temporary seasonal appointment. Major Duties:
Catalogs and documents museum collections.
Identifies, sorts, classifies, and catalogs objects; enters and updates catalog and accession data in NPS systems; maintains catalog, accession, and loan records in accordance with NPS standards.
Performs preventive conservation and collection care.
Handles, cleans, stabilizes, stores, and labels objects; implements housekeeping schedules; monitors artifact condition; and reports deterioration, damage, or security concerns.
Monitors environmental conditions.
Tracks temperature, relative humidity, and pest activity in exhibit and storage areas; compiles environmental data into summaries and reports; and maintains monitoring equipment and supplies.
Supports exhibits and curatorial projects.
Assists with exhibit installation, repair, and maintenance; participates in projects such as backlog cataloging, storage reorganization, archival arrangement, and photo documentation; and may instruct interns or volunteers.
Provides collection access and public assistance.
Responds to inquiries; assists researchers and visiting museum professionals; retrieves and rehouses objects; and provides specialized tours or talks related to the museum collection, storage, and exhibits.
