Positions selected for the McCarthy, AK duty station will be duty stationed in Kennecott, AK.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required.
Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

Elias National Park and Preserve are Chisana, Chistochina, Chitina, Copper Center, Dot Lake, Gakona, Gakona Junction, Glennallen, Gulkana, Healy Lake, Kenny Lake, Long Lake, Lower & Upper Tonsina, McCarthy, Mendeltna, Mentasta Lake, Nabesna, Nelchina, Northway/Northway Village, Northway Junction, Slana, Tanacross, Tazlina, Tetlin, Tok, Tonsina and Yakutat.

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading). Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
Skill in handling tools and/or testing equipment such as tapes, rules, squares, hammers, power planers, hand and power saws, drills, pipe threaders, benders, packing and caulking irons, pipe wrenches, volt/OHM amp meters.
Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair, etc. Knowledge of materials. Technical practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic). Major Duties:
The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.
Duties of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Passes on to other workers the instructions received from the supervisor by assigning daily tasks to individuals of the work group.
Ensures necessary plans, materials, supplies, equipment, and tools are available when needed. Recommends operation needs per work requests to the supervisor.
Checks work in progress and upon completion to determine/ensure supervisor's instructions are being followed and to meet deadlines.
Reports progress and delays to supervisor and on overall operations and problems.
Performs non-supervisory work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings and related fixtures and utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, plumbing, cement work, painting, and other related trades.
Paints wood, metal, equipment, interiors and exteriors of buildings using brush, roller and spray equipment.
Operates specialty equipment, tractors, bobcats, vehicles, and other small hand-held machinery. Please visit find a park for additional park information.
