General description of the intern duties:
Houston Public Works Information TechnologyPerforms simple procedures necessary to ensure the safety of IT assets and data; protects systems from intentional or inadvertent access or destruction. Monitors and resolves simple IT security incidents by applying knowledge of remediation techniques. Works closely with business and technology personnel to document system security plans.

Mayor's OfficeEducation & Youth EngagementFacilitate hands-on STEM activities for park campers ages 6-13. Support participation in Houston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program by reading aloud to groups of park campers and tracking credits earned. Assist with other Parks programming, as needed.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Thanks for your interest in the City of Houston's Youth Summer Jobs Program, which will run from June 8 – July 31, 2026. Interns will work 32 hours per week and earn $14 per hour. This program provides an excellent opportunity for you to earn and learn by becoming a member of the team that takes care of the residents of the nation’s 4th largest city.

Note - Successful candidates will be required to pass a background check.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Apply for a summer internship with the TechConnect Program and help bring digital equity to kids living in under-resourced neighborhoods. TechConnect Interns facilitate highly interactive, hands-on STEM enrichment activities for youth ages 6-13 at neighborhood recreation centers at City of Houston parks.

Working as a TechConnect Intern is not only an important investment in neighborhood children, it’s also a smart investment in your own future! Earn some new credentials, try out new technology, and meet tech industry professionals. Strengthen your resume and make yourself a highly attractive candidate for whatever you want to do next. As a Tech-Connect Intern, you will:
  • Facilitate hands-on STEM activities for park campers ages 6-13.
  • Gain experience with coding, robotics, programming drone flight, computer applications, new gadgets, cool devices, and much more!
  • Work alongside of, and network with tech industry resource providers at weekly TechConnect Fairs.
  • Attend a one-hour virtual tech class each week, during your workday, taught by Apple personnel.
  • Earn Apple Teacher certifications for free.
  • Be responsible for the iPad you will be issued for use during your internship
  • Support participation in Houston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program by reading aloud to groups of park campers and tracking credits earned.
  • Assist with other Parks programming, as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Some positions require working outside in varied weather conditions, and the ability to use certain tools.

There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Some positions are outdoors and require the ability to function in warm/hot weather conditions.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. May have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area. (Individuals may be high school students.) Must be 16 years of age or older.
