General description of the intern duties:
| | Finance | Various | Perform basic Accounting and Financial reporting duties along compliance related activities. | | Houston Police | Finance | Creates and modifies excel spreadsheets and PowerPoints, helps create and set up electronic filing system, assist in preparing memos and documents | | Health & Human Department | Administrative Services Division/Business Management | Organize a financial filing system that is easily accessible. Prepare accounting reports to be presented to senior management if requested. Ensure accuracy of financial statements, ensuring the final figures on statements are correct. Assist with the balancing of the office/department budget. Assist with any requested task to assist the area. | | Dept of Neighborhoods | Finance & Accounting | | Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and checklists for key financial processes, including travel, P-card purchases, procurement, SAP journal entries, monthly financial reporting, budget preparation, and grant setup/awards. This project-based role offers hands-on experience with municipal finance systems and compliance standards. |

GENERAL INFORMATIONThanks for your interest in the City of Houston's Youth Summer Jobs Program, which will run from June 8– July 31, 2026.
Interns will work 32 hours per week and earn $14 per hour. This program provides an excellent opportunity for you to earn and learn by becoming a member of the team that takes care of the residents of the nation’s 4th largest city.
Note - Successful candidates will be required to pass a background check.

WORKING CONDITIONSThe position is physically comfortable, the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc. Some positions require working outside in varied weather conditions, and the ability to use certain tools.
There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Some positions are outdoors and require the ability to function in warm/hot weather conditions.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to read, write, add, subtract and follow oral and basic written instructions. May have a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. May require a basic knowledge of a particular subject area. (Individuals may be high school students.) Must be 16 years of age or older.
