Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves operating and maintaining heavy machinery like bulldozers and loaders to build and repair roads in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska, typically from May to September.

Workers may also do hands-on tasks like installing culverts and could work odd hours depending on weather or project needs.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: To qualify for this position, you must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without airbrake restrictions at the time of application.

A current medical examiner's certificate with no disqualifying offenses is required by the anticipated entrance-on-duty listed in this announcement.

You must submit a copy of your CDL that reflects no airbrake restrictions when you apply. Ensure you upload the front and back of your CDL.

If selected, you must submit the medical examiner's certificate before entrance-on-duty. Do NOT include photographs.

-AND- ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required.

Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

-AND- To be eligible your resume must clearly show periods of time having lived or worked in or near the area of consideration. The area of consideration can be found in the below paragraph.

Areas considered "near" Denali National Park and Preserve, Toklat, and Wonder Lake duty stations include only: Anderson, Cantwell, Chulitna, Clear, Curry, Denali Park, Ferry, Healy, Kantishna, Lake Minchumina, McKinley Village, Nenana, Nikolai, Petersville, Talkeetna, Tanana, Telida, and Trapper Creek.

-ALSO- The following are the competencies identified for this position.

Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Ability to operate a variety of motor vehicles including graders, front-end loaders, bulldozers, and excavators. Ability to keep work materials neat, clean, and in order.

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. Ability to operate safely. Major Duties:

The typical season for this position is May - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is May 2026.

If selected, you will work as an Engineering Equipment Operator, WG-5716-08 for the Roads team at Denali National Park and Preserve.

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Operates and maintains a variety of heavy engineering equipment including bulldozers, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, dump trucks, tractor, and trailers with a GVWR up to or exceeding 50,000 lbs.

on varied terrain. Incumbents may be required to work at odd hours, at night or very early in the morning.
