Full Job Description

This position is located in Gateway National Recreation Area, in the Admin Division.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Gateway National Recreation Area is March to October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Anticipated Entry on Duty: March 22nd, 2026. All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/16/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: Ability to Type 40 Words Per Minute (Words per minute are based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors).

You must provide a self certification of this skill or you will be considered ineligible and given no further consideration.

Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

-AND- EXPERIENCE: At least one year of general experience that is progressively responsible clerical, office or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.

Examples of qualifying general experience include but are not limited to performing general administrative functions and providing customer service. You must include hours per week worked.

OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of two years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field of study for which high school graduation or the equivalent was a prerequisite.

This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial, or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (You must provide a copy of your college transcripts).

OR COMBINATION: A combination of general experience and education as described above, which, when combined, is equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirements (You must provide a copy of your college transcripts).

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Serves as the administrative contact for division. Acts as initial point of contact for telephone calls and visitors. Coordinates with the Human Resources.

Initiates personnel actions in the Federal Personnel Pay System. Uses Microsoft Word and/or other software to create, copy, edit and store documents.

Responsible for divisions payroll submissions and timekeeping. Provides assistance with employee travel documents. Orders supplies.
