Full Job Description

Directs actions of children and traffic at street intersections and school entrances to ensure safe crossings; monitors and enforces school zone speed limits.

This position is a non-supervisory classification and receives limited supervision, consulting with Field Supervisor on unusual situations.

Candidates must be able to think and react independently to various situations.

Work Hours: Three hours per school day; early morning and afternoon.
Specific hours are determined when assigned to school

On occasion, may be required to work special assignments.

Incumbent works 10 months out of the year.

Patrols street crossings and school entrances during hours when children are going to and coming from schoolDirects the actions of children and trafficEscorts children across the streetRecords license numbers of vehicles disregarding the school zone speed limitPlaces and removes caution signs and conesCautions drivers of speeding vehicles by use of whistle and/or hand signalsThe work requires some physical exertion such as walking, climbing, bending, stooping, stretching, or similar activities.
