Job Purpose:

The SC NEXUS Marketing & Communications Intern will support strategic communications and marketing initiatives for SC NEXUS, a federally designated Tech Hub advancing energy innovation across South Carolina.

This role offers hands-on experience in brand management, content development, stakeholder engagement and event coordination within a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

The intern will assist in executing integrated marketing efforts that elevate the SC NEXUS brand, highlight project impact, and support collaboration across industry and academia.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the execution of marketing and communications campaigns across digital and print platforms.
  • Draft and edit content for newsletters, press releases, website updates, and social media channels, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines and AP style.
  • Assist in maintaining and organizing marketing assets, including presentations, collateral, and visual content.
  • Coordinate logistics and communications for events, workshops, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Conduct research to support storytelling, reporting, and strategic messaging initiatives.
  • Monitor and report on engagement metrics to inform marketing performance and optimization.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent, high-quality communication.

Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required program experience.

  • Pursuing a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, Photoshop; preferred)
  • Experience with Canva or similar design platforms
  • Familiarity with email marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact or Klaviyo)
  • Understanding of social media analytics and performance tracking
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Basecamp or Monday.com)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Workspace

Additional Information

This is a part-time position that is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
