Full Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is seeking applicants to fill a full-time Safety Officer position. This applicant will work under the guidance of the Bureau Chief and is responsible for development, implementation and on-going administration of policies, procedures and protocols for maintaining a culture of safety in accordance with Federal and State laws.

Duties will include but not limited to:
- Develops safety program packages and information materials.

- Interprets occupational safety laws, rules and regulations as they relate to the IDVA and assists in ensuring IDVA maintains compliance with applicable safety regulations.

- Provide staff training in occupational safety and assists the Quality & Compliance Bureau
Chief in development of safety education programs.

- Provides lead role in Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Operations Collaborates with lead agencies such as Local Emergency Planning Committee state emergency management, Iowa National Guard, city government offices locally, to achieve community planning to assure continuity in operations related to disaster preparedness.

- Serves as liaison with the State Fire Marshal's Office Facility licensing/certifying agencies.

- Performs administrative duties to assist Quality & Compliance Bureau Chief; obtains and compiles information; prepares and maintains safety logs, MDS and preforms audits as required.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in occupational and environmental health, engineering or human resources management;
OR
four years of full-time professional work experience in human resources/safety administration (i.e. development and implementation of a safety program, accident prevention, loss control, facility inspection, employee training);
OR
an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience totaling four years.
