Summary

This job involves leading safety efforts for the U.S.

Army Corps of Engineers in the Middle East District, including inspecting sites, advising on health risks, and ensuring contractors follow safety rules.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assessing a site for safety related issues to provide feedback to enable correction of observed deficiencies; reviewing government contracts with a specific focus of ensuring that a contractor adheres to contract specifications; managing the work of other safety related professionals; developing appropriate hazard prevention and controls, and then monitoring the actions for effectiveness; reviewing accident investigations to determine the direct and indirect cause(s) and provide recommendations to prevent similar accidents; and providing safety related training and championing organizational safety campaigns.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance Inspection and Program Management Program Management Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Hazard Identification Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).

Major Duties:

  • You will serve as a Supervisory (CSRA) Safety and Occupational Health Manager for the Middle East District, and the principal technical advisor to the Commander on all safety aspects within the district.
  • Plan the work to be accomplished by subordinate civilian and contractor personnel.
  • Advise management, staff, supervisors, employees, and contractor personnel on a variety of safety and occupational health matters.
  • Inspect the district, organizations, facilities, and operations including all government-occupied buildings and quarters, construction sites and work sites, etc.., to ensure compliance with appropriate safety rules, regulation and guidelines.
  • Furnish both SWM and contractor personnel with applicable safety manuals and codes, information on standard safety devices, and ways to adapt them to specific circumstances.
  • Conduct continuing investigations and tests to determine existence of hazardous environmental/occupational health situations in SWM facilities.
