Summary

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SAFETY & OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH MANAGER (INSTRUCTOR) in the SAFETY BRANCH of NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying Department of Defense (DoD), Department of the Navy (DoN), and OSHA regulations to manage SOH programs, ensure workplace compliance, and protect life, health, and property; 2) Conducting comprehensive hazard analyses, risk assessments, and formal mishap investigations to identify root causes and implement corrective actions; 3) Developing and implementing SOH program policies, procedures, and training for a diverse workforce (military and/or civilian); 4) Advising organizational leadership on technical SOH issues and providing recommendations for risk management decisions.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will manage, operate, and administer a comprehensive and enterprise-wide Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) program.
  • You will support and advise the Director, NHHC in the execution of a safety management system that protects people and materiel from preventable harm across the full scope of command operations and activities.
  • You will write and implement local SOH instructions, manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • You will formulate long-range SOH objectives, strategic plans, and performance metrics to support both mission readiness and regulatory compliance.
  • You will advise management on implementation of required corrective actions and performance of applied risk controls.
  • You will develop and direct an educational program instructing command personnel on their role in controlling hazards, preventing injuries, and averting occupational illnesses.
  • You will identify SOH resource requirements (funding, manpower, equipment) and develop budget justifications SOH for program needs.
  • You will serve as a first-line supervisor and rating official for subordinate employees in the Safety and Occupational Health series and perform the full scope of supervisory duties and responsibilities.
  • You will serve as Naval History and Heritage Command's principal SOH representative on councils, committees, boards, and working groups.
