Full Job Description
Under general direction, is responsible for managing the safety efforts performed by departmental Safety Coordinators to ensure standardization of assessments, investigations, inspections, safety training and various safety efforts city-wide. Coordinates safety efforts with City departments in establishment of safety goals, program development and compliance with applicable agency requirements. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

Requirements
- Manages the professional development and workflow of safety staff.
- Coordinates staff efforts in performing safety assessments, investigations, inspections, safety training and various safety efforts city-wide.
- Establishes and develops safety targets and objectives, recommending to staff and department management safety goals, trends, statistics and equipment.
- Coordinates and manages receipt of Police Crash Reports, Commercial Insurance Property Survey schedules and Corrective Action/Preventable Action (CAPA) Program.
- Provide oversight on Accident and Injury Review Board (ARB) data and processes.
- Establishes, develops and monitors safety activities/targets and objectives; ensuring compliance and recommending safety goals, trends, statistics and equipment.
- Develops training programs for development and sustaining staff industry competency and professional knowledge.
- Conduct reviews and audits of Safety Division processes and procedures for adherence to ensure relevancy and consistency with industry best practices.
- Conducts industry research studies for development of best management practices, advising department management on required modifications to meet safety goals.
- Prepares, communicates and presents information, trends, safety statistics, assessments and program developments to Department Directors.
- Interviews, selects, supervise, develop, evaluate, counsel and discipline personnel according to established CoSA policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Ability to perform all functions of a Safety Coordinator and ancillary duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Performs related duties and fulfill responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Five (5) years of experience with a safety or risk management program.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Applicant Information
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job.
One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.
One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
