Full Job Description

You will serve as a SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS SPECIALIST within NAVSCOLASAFE.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing knowledge of instructional strategies and methods.

2) Executing projects and or studies within established financial and time constraints. 3) Mentoring and developing school instructional staff.

4) Developing and recommending actions and strategies associated with and the implementation of risk mitigation across naval aviation.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will serve as principal adviser to NAVSCOLASAFE and duties include acting as a Safety Management System (SMS) expert.
  • You will define problems, coordinate curriculum study plans and research conducted by NAVSCOLA VSAFE students or contractors for SMS curriculum analysis.
  • You will develop methodologies for and review the effectiveness of safety programs.
  • You will serve as an expert on command safety climate assessment of organizations within the Navy and Marine Corps.
  • You will provide technical guidance, advisory support, and assistance on projects or major phases of broad and varied projects.
  • You will attend meetings, conferences, briefings, seminars, and workshops related to SMS.
  • You will interface with higher headquarters and other academic, analytical or technical agencies on advances in safety technologies and programs.
  • You will instruct and reviews mishap investigations at a field Crash Lab/mockup.
  • You will instruct courses in aviation safety for Navy/Marine Corps/Coast Guard personnel and International Military Officers; approximately 1100 students per year.
  • You will serve as curriculum specialist and learning standards officer for Commanding Officer and Executive Officer, NAVSCOLAVSAFE for officer aviation safety curricula and review curriculum content.
