About the Position: This position is assigned to Defense Health Agency Indo-Pacific, Directorate of Executive - Hospital Safety, located at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in Honolulu, Hawaii.

This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) conducting workplace inspections for compliance with established safety and occupational health standards in a healthcare or dental facility; and (2) conducting investigations of incidents involving workplace safety; and (3) developing safety and occupational health programs, policies, or procedures for healthcare or dental facilities in accordance with The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M.

with a major study in safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene), or Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following (or closely related) disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Major Duties:

  • Serve as the Safety and Occupational Health Program Specialist for a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) within the Defense Health Agency (DHA).
  • Plan, implement, administer, inspect and evaluate the organization's Safety and Occupational Health Program and for its facilities.
  • Schedule and conduct surveys, inspections, assessments and staff assistance visits of health operations to identify and evaluate risks potentially involving various work environments and occupations throughout the area of responsibility.
  • Conduct safety training and provide safety oversight of health command operations.
  • Investigate accidents and manage accident regulatory recordkeeping responsibilities.
  • Ensure safety review and risk assessment of public health command operation plans/policies to provide technical advice and incorporate safety countermeasures.
  • Serve as the technical authority for the organization's safety and occupational health issues.
