Job Description

Summary

This job involves helping an occupational therapist assess and treat patients at Hawaii State Hospital by planning and running therapy programs to improve daily living skills.

It requires working with people in a hospital setting, possibly on evenings, weekends, or holidays.

Requirements

This position, Occupational Therapy Assistant, is located in the Occupational Therapy Unit of the Hawaii State Hospital ad is responsible for assisting an Occupational Therapist in the evaluation and treatment of patients referred for occupational therapy and in planning, coordinating, and implementing an ongoing therapeutic occupational therapy program. The position may be required to work on shifts, including evening, and weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Legal Authorization to Work:

The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.


LICENSE:
Applicants must possess a valid Occupational Therapy Assistant License issued by the State of Hawaii Board of Occupational Therapy.

AND

Experience and Essential Knowledge and Abilities Required:
One year of experience in working with patients in a hospital, facility, or program which involved occupational therapy assessment and treatment.

The experience must have provided the applicant with knowledge of and experience in
a) the application of accepted methods of obtaining assessment data (through testing and observation) and reporting own baseline data in various assessment areas including independent living skills and performance;
b) a broad range of standard therapeutic methods and techniques;
c) applicable hospital/facility/program policies and procedures;
the ability to modify standard treatment techniques and equipment in working with varied patients;
d) apply purposeful activity to enhance independent living/daily living skills;
e) prepare and maintain work setting equipment and supplies;
f) maintain records;
g) explain services;
participate in patient program planning; identify and discuss the need for and carry out evaluation/assessment procedures for patients in treatments;
h) monitor clients progress in consultation with registered therapist; and provide input on discontinuation of services and/or referral to other services.
