To accomplish our Mission, the person selected for this position will demonstrate actions and behaviors guided by the Iowa DOT’s five CORE values: Safety First, People Matter, Customer Focused, Servant Leadership, and Integrity Without Exception.

Location: Design Bureau, Ames, IA Shift Requirements: Days, Monday through Friday.

The Design Bureau is looking to hire a roadside design intern to work alongside a team of full-time landscape design, erosion control, and vegetation management professionals to help to enhance Iowa’s roadsides.

In this position, you will be responsible for assisting in developing projects by conducting field work and inspections, creating maps using GIS and CADD software, producing plans, and developing special roadside projects based on your education, skills, and the needs of the section.

This position requires strong communication skills and the desire to learn about Iowa’s native plant communities, transportation safety and roadside issues including erosion control strategies and landscape design.

Student intern must be located in Iowa during the work period hired for, and able to report to the Ames, IA location on a regular basis (no relocation funding provided).

Student must be actively enrolled in a 2- or 4- year university and recent graduates are not eligible. Requires valid Driver’s License. Position will start in early May.

Qualifications
