The Department of Local Services is looking for a dedicated hardworking Road Maintenance Worker to become part of our team.
In this role, you will perform a wide variety of skilled tasks related to roadway construction, repair and maintenance.
This work involves ensuring the safety of crews and the traveling public by providing proper traffic control measures, operating vehicles and equipment, performing roadway repairs, and seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal.

PRACTICAL EXAM/INTERVIEWS ALL IN ONE DAY:Applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to participate in an in-person practical exam and interview, held on the same day at our Vashon Island Pit on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
Only applicants who successfully pass the practical exam will advance to the interview.

During the spring/summer the work schedule will consist of four, ten-hour days, Monday – Thursday, 6:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Working after-hours, weekends, and holidays may be required in emergency circumstances, such as during inclement weather, and on special projects.
Additional hours, weekends, and holidays vary upon business demand, season and weather.
This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay, with prior supervisor approval. WORK LOCATION:The work location is Vashon Island.
Candidates must reside on Vashon Island to be considered for this position.
EMERGENCY DESIGNATION STATUS:This position has been designated (First Responder) - Employees who, in the early stages of an incident, are responsible for protecting and preserving life, property, evidence, the environment, and restoring order.
