Full Job Description

This vacancy is for aWS-5210-10, Rigging Supervisor located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S.

Coast Guard, OFFICE OF NAVAL ENGINEERING in Baltimore, MD, This is a temporary appointment not to exceed 1 year, can be extended up to 5 years total an or can be converted to permanent without further consideration.

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience.

Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements: 1. Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREENOUT) 2.

Knowledge of equipment, assembly, installation, repair, etc. 3. Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4. Use of measuring instruments 5.

Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) 6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment 7.

Knowledge of materials National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

You will serve as a Rigging Supervisor and be responsible for directly or through a leader supervising a group of employees who perform all kinds of trade tasks involved in constructing, repairing or renovating a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels and in connection with miscellaneous manufacturing and facility projects performed at the YARD.

Typical work assignments include: Studies and develops plans, specifications, schedules and job orders to become thoroughly familiar with assignments and recommends changes that will result in more effective, efficient and economical work progress.

Conducts inspections of equipment, vessels and plant facilities. Submits reports with recommended repairs, modifications or changes.

Plans the overall sequence of the work including complex or critical phases of the work and develops the best methods or procedures to be followed in accomplishing the tasks involved.
