This job involves leading a team of riggers in a naval shipyard to handle, move, and install heavy mechanical equipment using cranes and other lifting gear, while ensuring all work is done safely and efficiently.
It includes receiving testing requests, instructing team members on procedures, and managing operations like staging and paperwork.
A good fit would be someone with hands-on rigging experience who enjoys supervising others in a technical, safety-focused environment like ship maintenance.
You will serve as a RIGGER LEADER in the RIGGING & OPERATIONS DIVISION, LIFTING AND HANDLING DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying.
Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: Scheduling and setting up test utilizing through knowledge the cranes' type, make, and model in accordance with operating characteristics and posted operational restrictions and limitations.
Utilizing test requirements for handling equipment used in the Shipyard and aboard ships. Assuring that work assignments are carried out in a safe and efficient manner.
Planning, laying out, assembling and installing complex weight handling gear. Selecting and installing weight handling gear for objects to be moved by crane or other mobile material handling equipment.
Reading and interpreting technical documents to carry out assignments.
