Job Description

Summary

This internship with the City of San Antonio's Resiliency & Sustainability Department involves helping with office tasks, research, data analysis, and special projects to build practical experience in city government focused on making communities stronger and more eco-friendly.

It's ideal for upper-level college students who are self-starters interested in public service, environmental issues, or urban planning.

The role offers hands-on learning in a supportive office setting without any supervisory duties.

Full Job Description

Under general supervision, is assigned to a City Department to assist in general administrative and/or research functions for the purpose of developing a working knowledge of a targeted area in municipal government. Typically has completed some advanced coursework related to the internship program. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises no supervision.

This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.

City Tower - 100 W. Houston Street, San Antonio, Texas (78205)

Work Schedule

30 hours per week, 4-5 days a week, within the 7:45am - 4:30pm work shift.

Requirements

  • Learns about area of career interest by observing and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed.
  • May assist in the coordination, administration and/or monitoring of specific programs.
  • May assist with conducting research, collecting and organizing data, performing analyses and preparing reports.
  • May propose solutions to existing problems and discuss recommendations with administrative personnel.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Must be enrolled in U.S. Department of Education accredited undergraduate degree program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled in U.S. Department of Education accredited college or university and completed 3+ years of undergraduate degree program. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale
Municipal Programs & Infrastructure Intern:

• Skill in the use of EPA Energy Star Portfolio Manager software
• Skill in the use of GIS software
• Skill in the use of Adobe software
• Experience with Excel

Community Engagement, Strategy & Data Intern:

• Skill in Graphic Design
• Skill in Website Development
• Experience with Excel
• Experience with public relations and marketing methodologies and practices
