This job involves inspecting and valuing homes and other residential properties to help determine fair property taxes for the city.

Key Requirements

  • Skills in researching, gathering, and interpreting data on residential property values
  • Experience performing field audits on existing or under-construction properties to verify value-affecting modifications
  • Proficiency in developing and maintaining appraisal records
  • Knowledge to investigate, present, and defend property values in compliance with State Tax Commission Statutes and Board of Equalization
  • Valid driver's license required

Full Job Description

This position is responsible for providing appraisals of real residential property for the purpose of calculating tax assessments and analyzing collected data to estimate residential land value.

The starting salary will be $20.88 hourly and there is an addition to pay for hours worked for those possessing State certification ($2/hour for Residential certification or appraisal license and $4/hour for General). Requirements

Conducts appraisals of property categorized as single family, multi-family, condominium, tax-exempt and agricultural by auditing properties, inspecting sites and interviewing.Researches, gathers, and interprets information on residential appraisals.Conducts field audits of properties that are existing or under construction to verify modifications that affect the value.Develops and maintains appropriate records.Investigates, presents, and defends property values in a manner that complies with the State Tax Commission Statutes, and Board of Equalization.Performs such additional duties, with the required abilities and under the indicated working conditions and environment, as may properly be required of a position in this job class.

Qualifications Two years of experience in residential appraisal or real estate sales, or one year of experience working as a Residential Data Collector for St.

Louis County; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. The work rules for the St. Louis County Assessor's Office require all employees, whether they reside in St.

Louis County or elsewhere, to remain current in the payment of their personal and real property taxes.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid driver's license.

Additional Information SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT: A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.

The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

Responses provided to the interview questions listed under the Supplemental Question heading of this posting will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade.

A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

Once questions are scored, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire.

Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.

All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
