Summary

This job involves researching legal and technical topics to help Michigan state legislators create unbiased policy advice, draft bills, and review documents, all while working in a non-partisan team environment.

A good fit would be a licensed attorney with strong writing and communication skills who enjoys independent work with some guidance and has an interest in how government and laws operate.

It's a full-time role in Lansing focused on supporting lawmakers without taking sides.

Full Job Description

The employee in this position gathers, synthesizes, and analyzes legal and technical information to provide high quality, unbiased research to state legislators and legislative staff. Communicates findings in writing and orally to support public policy development and bill drafting. Provides legal review of Division products. Drafts policy resolutions for state legislators. Completes assignments independently with a moderate amount of supervision.

The LSB Research Services Division is part of the Michigan Legislative Council. The division provides non-partisan analysis, information, and research services to members of the Michigan Legislature as requested related to bill drafting and other legislative areas.

This is a full-time job, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Requirements

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Occasional overtime and irregular hours as required.
