Job Duties:

The Licensed Regional Clinical Specialist coordinates and provides region-wide clinical case consultation to DSS staff to identify therapeutic services for children who need behavioral health services.

Provides guidance and support for children needing therapeutic support services and higher levels of care.


  • Uses the FAST/CANS assessment, provides initial and ongoing clinical support to front line professionals during case staffing's, case consultations, and Child and Family Team Meetings, coordinating medical and therapeutic services for children, youth, and families.

Provides clinical supervision, ongoing level of care oversight and approvals as needed and performs clinical staffings for children in therapeutic placements.

Prioritizes the therapeutic support for children and youth experiencing placement instability.

Creates a time sensitive action plan to obtain recommended services in partnership with county leadership, identifying concerns and barriers.


  • Coordinates in conjunction with the regional clinical team to provide region-wide support to include coaching and training for front line professionals with engaging children, youth and families with mental health needs and other behavioral management concerns.

  • Partners with front line professionals to schedule clinical assessments. In urgent situations, completes a face-to-face assessment within 24 hours and documents treatment recommendations when an emergency diagnostic assessment is needed and cannot be scheduled timely.

  • Collaborates with SCDSS Psychiatrist and Lead Clinical Specialist for guidance and support of children needing higher levels of care to include getting prior authorization of services from MCO.

  • Attends PRTF treatment team meetings and monthly PRTF continued stay reviews to advocate for youth and initiate appeals process if/when needed. Provides quarterly face-to-face contact for youth in PRTFs to assess for quality of treatment and additional treatment needs.

  • Actively assists the front-line staff and team leads to ensure that the recommendations are completed from Red Flag staffing's.

  • Participates in the statewide on-call scheduling system to respond to emergencies, ensuring that clinical staff is available at all hours.

  • Performs Red Cross shelter duty or other emergency shelter duty/services as directed.

  • Performs other job duties as required.

Requirements

A Master's Degree and two (2) years of experience in any combination of Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy.

Must hold an independent license as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Social Worker – Clinical Practice (LISW-CP), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in SC, while employed in this position.
