Summary

This job involves helping military patients manage their healthcare referrals by checking eligibility, updating records, answering questions, and tracking care processes in a hospital setting.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes tracking and obtaining referral results with local health care providers; verifying and updating patient demographics in health care databases; and educating patients on coordination of benefits.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5.

Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.

Major Duties:

  • Verify beneficiary eligibility and enrollment for accuracy across different information systems.
  • Identify problem areas on the ability to complete referrals and reports them to leadership.
  • Respond to enrollee questions and concerns.
  • Provide guidance to patients on how to process care request in the referral systems.
  • Enter results into established referral tracking system maintained exclusively by MEDCOM.
