About the Position: Serves as a Referral Management Assistant at Guthrie Army Health Clinics - Fort Drum.

This position serves as a Referral Management Assistant responsible for coordinating, tracking, and closing specialty care referrals for Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries within a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).

The incumbent ensures continuity of care by managing referral workflows, resolving consult-related issues, and supporting both direct and network healthcare services.

Minimum Qualifications: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience includes assisting with tracking and updating medical referrals; utilizing office software to input data, prepare basic reports, and maintain organized records; contacting clinics, providers, or patients to obtain referral status or missing documentation; maintaining referral files or follow-up lists.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).

OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.

OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.

To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60.

Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05.) All applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade and specialized experience requirements within thirty (30) days after the closing date of the announcements.

Major Duties:

  • Maintain suspense systems for network-deferred referrals to ensure timely administrative closure.
  • Collaborate with providers, specialty clinics, and patients to obtain referral results or assist with care completion.
  • Tracks and verifies completion of all MTF and network deferred referrals.
  • Maintain referral documentation and contact databases; prepares routine reports for leadership review.
  • Contacts patients and providers to obtain missing results or assist with care coordination.
