Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience: Comprehensive knowledge of youth and teen development theory, principles, methodologies, policies, and practices related to physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development within a military youth program environment; knowledge of qualification, suitability, and background requirements for adults working with youth; and demonstrated ability to independently plan, implement, and manage ongoing youth/teen programs that address a wide range of participant interests and developmental needs.
Skills in budgeting, program evaluation, facility administration, and the effective management of financial, physical, and human resources; ability to recruit, screen, train, and supervise staff and volunteers; and proficiency in applying policies, procedures, and safety management practices.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships and provide leadership to staff and volunteers. Skill in publicizing and promoting programs through all available media.
Strong written and oral communication skills sufficient to prepare reports, correspondence, briefings, and presentations for diverse audiences.
Must successfully complete pre-employment screening and maintain continued suitability for contact with children and youth, including required background investigations and periodic re-verification in accordance with applicable regulations.
Must obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certification and meet all training requirements outlined in applicable DoD and Air Force regulations.
Must be able to lift 40lbs or more and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate.
May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license, complete physical examinations and immunizations as required, work an uncommon tour of duty, and perform occasional travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
"This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use". Major Duties:
Plans, organizes, coordinates, and implements a developmentally appropriate and diverse, educational recreational, fitness and leisure year-round teen program that promotes physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development and fosters achievement, leadership, and recognition of teenage youth.
Program serves a population of family members of active duty, reserve, retired military, DOD civilians, contractors and other authorized customers.
Develops and implements program activities in traditional/core and specialized programs to emphasize activities appropriate to the interests and developmental needs of the teen population served.
Reviews program guidelines, resource materials, and local community youth programs to obtain ideas and adapts to meet base requirements.
Arranges for necessary supplies, equipment, transportation, space, and services for teen programs.
Provides guidance and leadership to various activities and participants; modifying, adapting, expanding, or otherwise changing plans and procedures relating to each activity programmed; and assures that required records, data, and files are maintained.
Meets with community and base organizations to promote programs and provides on-going positive customer service through interactions with teens, parents, volunteers, and staff.
Offers activities in the areas of leadership and character development, the arts, fitness and recreation, health and life skills, and education which include science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) opportunities.
Sponsors, in coordination with other base agencies, a Youth Sponsorship or Transition Program, to help youth adjust to challenges of military life.
Implements all required Boys & Girls Club of America Programs, including Youth of the Year, Keystone Club, and other activities identified in the current Air Force Youth Programs Inspection Criteria.
Implements all required 4-H programming identified in the current Air Force Youth Programs Inspection Criteria. Implements an installation Teen Council. Promotes the Congressional Award Program.
Stays current with youth and recreation industry trends to ensure a variety of programs are available to appeal to all patrons. Monitors day-to-day operations of the Teen Program.
Evaluates the effectiveness of on-going teen programs, services and activities, and makes recommendations to the Youth Programs Director on policy and procedural changes to effect continual improvements wherever possible.
Recruits and trains volunteers to serve as chaperones, tutors, etc.
Provides guidance and leadership to Child and Youth Program Assistants, volunteers, and other program providers on proper procedures and techniques for implementation of activities and programs.
Informs the Youth Programs Director on performance, progress, and training needs of teen program staff, and on disciplinary problems.
Makes suggestions to the supervisor as requested concerning staff member promotions, reassignments, recognition, of exemplary performance, and other personnel needs.
Provides the supervisor with program data for various statistical reports and studies required or requested by higher organizational levels and support functions such as human resources activities.
Maintains records of the use and scope of programs.
Accomplishes after-action reports to ensure improvements are on-going for future events and maintains program archives for future reference and planning. Administers Teen Program resources.
Provides input and recommendations to the annual appropriated fund (APF) and non-appropriated fund (NAF) budgets for projected resource requirements.
Assesses needs and assists in budgeting of all necessary APF and NAF funded equipment, supplies, and expenditures that support dayto-day operations and long-term goals and objectives of the teen program.
Assists the Youth Programs Director in developing administrative safeguards to protect funds, equipment, and resources.
Provides input to the director in the formulation of operating instructions to protect resources (e.g., cash and equipment) from loss, theft, and maltreatment.
Identifies and plans for repairs and maintenance of facilities, activity areas, and equipment. Monitors monthly expenditures with regard to budgeted goals.
Initiates purchase requests and other resource-related documents. Researches and reviews grant opportunities (e.g., BGCA, 4-H) and applies for grants applicable to the teen program.
Maintains operating records to accurately track and analyze operations to determine effectiveness. Ensures required accounting documents are submitted.
