About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Columbus Air Force Base Outdoor Recreation (Swimming Pool). Who May Apply: Open to everyone.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification for the type of activity and skill levels they are instructing (swimming, aquatic exercise).

Must have nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills as well as basic first aid training and CPR certification which include adult, infant and child procedures.

Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of instructional and developmental teaching methods, swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.

Possession of a nationally recognized water safety certification or equivalent desirable but not required; however, possession will increase hiring potential and hourly wage.

Pre-employment screening required for swimming ability, recue skills and CPR. Must have experience with cash handling to account for large amounts of cash with no errors.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 45 pounds. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Satisfactorily completion of installation records checks, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Major Duties:

NOT TO EXCEED MAY 1st, 2026- SEPT 30th, 2026 Monitor the planning, manning, and operational oversight of the Independence Pool.

Distributes workload tasking from Outdoor Recreation Director and passes on to subordinate lifeguards. Supervises up to 15+ lifeguards in performance of their daily duties. Develops duties.

Develops duty schedules for all lifeguards to maintain minimum lifeguard on-duty requirement for daily pool operations, including private parties and lap swimming.

Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions and expels patrons for inappropriate behavior.

Applies a variety of techniques such as rescue breathing, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid as required to respond to any type of safety incident.

Conducts required in-service training for all lifeguards.

Use all aquatic equipment as requires and trains all lifeguard staff on proper use and care for equipment including, but not limited to first aid kits, buoys, ropes, rescue rings, shepherd's hooks, backboards Responds to, documents, and reports incidents, accidents, and injuries.

Promptly reports results of any incident to Outdoor Recreation Director.

Monitors and documents pool water chemistry (temperature, free chlorine, pH, and clarity) according to established schedules, instructions and standards.

Monitors all pool areas including bathhouse, desk, lockers, showers, pool, splash pad, grounds, pavilion, parking lot, and restroom adjacent to pool area to ensure compliance with established schedules, instructions, and sanitation requirements.

Reports equipment, facility, and water deficiencies to Civil Engineering personnel for correction. Monitors gate control duties to ensure compliance with established standards.

Schedules for youth and adults for appropriate skill- level swim lessons. Conducts all swimming lessons with the assistance of other lifeguards if required. Trains new lifeguards.

Works non-regular shifts including nights and weekends. All required certifications must be valid prior to hire and remain valid throughout the entire pool season.
