The City of Pasadena Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking part-time Recreation Facilities Assistants who are energetic, enthusiastic, and reliable in providing support in the implementation of special recreational events by assisting in the preparation, set up, maintenance cleanup, and security of programs and events at recreational facilities and parks throughout the city.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong experience in hosting recreation and civic activities, including providing security/crowd control, ensuring safety and order, and enforcing rules and policies.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid California driver's license and reliable transportation, and be able to work varying hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays up to 19 hours per week as assigned, as well as attend meetings as needed.

Requirements

  • Assists with the hosting of a variety of recreational and civic activities (e.g. educational or social events, special events, filming, groups, parties, concerts, speakers, dances, etc.) at Pasadena parks and other sites.
  • Prepares, sets up, maintains, cleanup, and provides security including crowd control for programs/events at the City's recreational facilities, parks and other sites.
  • Reads, interprets and follows instructions as assigned.
  • Provides efficient and courteous customer service while ensuring public safety at all times.
  • Enforces terms and conditions of permits and contracts for use of City premises.
  • Inspects, monitors and ensures that restrooms, parking lots, and other common areas are clean and in satisfactory condition.
  • Perform sweeping duties as necessary and/or remove debris as needed.
  • Coordinates special programs and/or assists in city-wide events.
  • Attends meetings and/ or debriefs to understand approved event operation plans, as needed.
  • Maintains complete and accurate reports for submission on attendance, time schedules, accidents, sound amplification levels, progress, etc.
  • May function as a site supervisor and enforce policy with the event host, escalating problems or issues to management and/or the Pasadena Police Department.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • One year of experience in public recreation, physical education and/or hospitality or facilities management.

Desired qualifications:

  • Individuals with experience hosting recreation and civic activities, including providing security/crowd control, ensuring safety and order, and enforcing rules and policies will be deemed most qualified.
  • Available for varied work schedules including weekdays, nights, weekends, and holidays.

SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process will consist of any combination of training and experience evaluation, written, performance, structured interview panel, and a department-level interview.

VACANCY INFORMATION:There are currently two part-time (up to 19 hours per week) vacancies in the Facilities Division of the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department.

The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill these vacancies and similar vacancies in the future.


Probationary period one year.
FLSA = Non-exempt
UNIT = NON-REP, AFSCME (Full-Time)

Additional Information

A valid Class C California Driver's License or reliable transportation is required at time of appointment.
A Recreation Facilities Assistant may be assigned to work on evenings and weekends on an occasional or regular basis.
