Summary

This job is for a recreation assistant at an outdoor complex on a military base in Colorado, where you'll lead groups and individuals in fun activities like rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, and mountain biking, teaching both kids and adults while keeping safety first.

Key Requirements

  • Familiarity with all programs offered by the Outdoor Recreation Complex and the local Fort Carson area to provide customer information
  • Strong communication skills to report issues promptly to supervisors and maintain high-quality service
  • Pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or related field, especially with internship or fieldwork experience (highly preferred)
  • Flexibility to work 0-40 hours per week in a non-guaranteed FLEX position

Full Job Description

This position is located at Outdoor Recreation Complex on Fort Carson. This position is a FLEX position. FLEX positions can be worked anywhere between 0 - 40 hours per week. Hours are not guaranteed.

Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, skills, knowledge and abilities as they pertain to this position. No experience required.

Highly Preferred - Resume must demonstrate experience in the highly preferred criteria. Must have knowledge of and experience in a wide variety of Outdoor Recreation pursuits.

Applicants pursuing a degree in Recreation Management, Outdoor Recreation, or a related field, and in the process of completing an internship or fieldwork program will be considered highly qualified.

The above minimum qualifications must be described within the duties of previous work experience listed on the applicant's resume and/or supporting documents.

A copy of all documents must be submitted at the time of application. Major Duties:

  • Works as a Recreation Assistant instructing groups and individuals in a variety of outdoor recreation programs, such as but not limited to rafting, rock climbing, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, challenge course.
  • Teaches children as well as adults. Incumbent is responsible for group management. The safety of the participants must always be the number one priority.
  • Must be familiar with all programs offered by Outdoor Recreation, as well as be familiar with local area as the position requires providing information to customers.
  • Reports any problems to the Outdoor Recreation Manager or Recreation Specialist as soon as possible in order to maintain a high quality service to guests.
