Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead lifeguard at a recreational pool on a military base in Fort Carson, Colorado, where you'll supervise other lifeguards, keep the pool safe and clean, and help run swimming programs.

It's ideal for someone with lifeguarding experience who enjoys working with people and ensuring safety in a water environment.

You'll need strong swimming skills and the ability to handle emergencies calmly.

Key Requirements

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent (e.g., Ellis & Associates)
  • American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification or equivalent
  • American Red Cross AED certification or equivalent (if AEDs are used)
  • American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification or equivalent (if O2 bottles are used)
  • Experience in pool operations, including filtration, water chemistry, and maintenance
  • Ability to supervise lifeguards, schedule staff, and enforce safety rules
  • Knowledge of aquatic training per ATP 7-22.01 and first aid administration

This position is located at Fort Carson MWR Recreational Pools.

A qualified candidate possess the following certificates: American Red Cross "Lifeguard" certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e.

Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Certification).

American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer" (CPR-Pro) certification or nationally recognized equivalent (i.e. Ellis & Associates (CPR) Certification).

When facilities use Automated External Defibrillator "AED's" and Oxygen Administration "O2 bottles" the following certificates are required: American Red Cross "Automated External Defibrillator" (AED) certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Ellis & Associates AED certification. American Red Cross "Oxygen Administration" certification or nationally recognized equivalent i.e.

Ellis & Associates Oxygen Administration certification. A cutoff of 4/27/2026 has been established.

All eligible applicants who apply on or before this date will be referred to management for first consideration. There will be cutoffs every two weeks until the position is filled. Major Duties:

  • Assist with the operation of the pool, oversees the work of assigned lifeguards and monitors compliance with facility policies. Assists with scheduling of employees. Maintains daily logs and records as required.
  • Assists with the operation of the pool, its filtration system, water balance, pool chemistry and performs water tests. Ensures maintaining pool and area is clean and free from any hazards.
  • Responsible for life guarding guest in attendance at the assigned aquatic facility. Rescues swimmers and administers first aid as required. Under direction of the pool supervisor, employ safety rules for the protection of the guest.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 as of October 2020. Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed.
  • Provides information to swimmers regarding safety rules and procedures. Tactfully warns patrons who repeatedly disregard safety rules, and follow facility Standard Operating Procedures for disciplinary actions.
