The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join its Recreation & Wellness - GOLF. The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • This individual will perform various tasks directly related to the implementation, coordination and monitoring of recreational activities at the golf courses.
  • Assist and monitor Golf Course Facility activities and special events; enforce facility rules and regulations with participants and general public.
  • Prepare, maintain and stage golf carts for rental and/or recharging.
  • Effectively prepare the pro shop and be mindful to the course's open/close times.
  • Cashiering in Pro-Shop.
  • Exceptional Customer Service to patrons & general public
  • On-Course/Pace of Play Monitoring at the golf course.
  • Must complete all tasks in accordance with all policies and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are routine discomforts from exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.

Requirements

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires high school diploma or a GED.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Three (3) months of related experience are required.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.

Qualifications


Preference shall be given to applicants who have knowledge in assisting at golf course facilities. Must be able to work early mornings, late afternoons, weekends and holidays as needed.

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
