Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lifeguard at an Army medical center pool in Honolulu, Hawaii, where you'll watch over swimmers, enforce safety rules, and respond to emergencies by performing rescues and first aid.

You'll also help with swimming lessons and keep the pool area clean and safe.

It's a great fit for someone who enjoys working outdoors or indoors near water, has strong swimming skills, and is comfortable handling urgent situations while providing good customer service.

Key Requirements

  • Current Lifeguarding certification from American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g., Star Guard, YMCA, ELLIS)
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED certification from American Red Cross or equivalent (e.g., American Heart Association)
  • First Aid certification from American Red Cross or equivalent
  • Ability to provide maximum surveillance of pool areas and respond to emergencies, including rescues
  • Knowledge of safety rules and procedures for pool guests
  • Assistance in conducting aquatic swimming, water survival training (per ATP 7-22.01), and American Red Cross swim lessons as an aide
  • Willingness to attend aquatics and safety training, maintain pool cleanliness, and perform water tests

Full Job Description

These positions are located at Tripler Army Medical Center Pool, Honolulu Hawaii, on the Island of Oahu. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives will not be paid. Resumes must be two pages (or less).

A qualified candidate must possess the following: Lifeguarding and First Aid (American Red Cross or nationally recognized equivalent i.e. Star Guard, YMCA, or ELLIS).

American Red Cross "Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for the Professional; CPR for the Professional Rescuer/AED or equivalent (American Heart Association CPR/AED); First Aid.

Your resume MUST clearly reflect the knowledge and experience listed under minimum criteria. Applicants who meet minimum criteria will be referred to the selecting official for consideration first.

Major Duties:

  • Serves as a lifeguard for indoor and outdoor pools and works under the direction of the Installation Aquatics Program Manager. Employs safety rules for the protection of the pool guests.
  • Responsible for lifeguarding guests in attendance at the assigned aquatics facility. Provides maximum pool area surveillance and responds to emergencies; rescues pool patrons and administers first aid as required.
  • Responsible for assisting in the conduct of aquatic swimming and water survival training according to ATP 7-22.01 as of October 2020 and assisting with American Red Cross swim lessons as an Aide.
  • Attend aquatics and/or safety training as directed. Adheres to Customer Service standards of the Installation. Assists in maintaining pool, and area clean and free from any hazards.
  • Performs periodic water tests and reports results to the pool leader on duty. Provides information to swimmers regarding safety/health/admission rules and procedures.
