Summary

This job is for a lifeguard at an outdoor recreation facility on a military base in Illinois, where you'll watch swimmers, enforce safety rules, perform rescues if needed, and help keep the pool area clean.

About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Scott AFB Outdoor Recreation. This is a Flexible position.

Guaranteed 0-40 hours per week Who May Apply: Open to everyone. Applicants will be categorized by preference(s) and/or priority consideration eligibilities.

An applicant's eligibility will be determined based on eligibility claimed in the questionnaire and proof of eligibility MUST be provided with application by the closing date, 03/31/2026 Business Based Action, Military Spouse Preference, Outside Applicant Veteran, Spouse/Widow/Parent of Veteran, and Transition Hiring Preference In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR/AED training.

CPR certifications must include adult, child and infant procedures. All certifications must remain current during the period of employment.

Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment. Major Duties:

Monitors activities within assigned swimming areas. Maintains order and enforces established rules of safety and behavior. Instructs, cautions, and/or expels patrons as appropriate.

Reports problems to senior lifeguard or supervisor. Rescues and resuscitates individuals in danger of drowning and renders first aid to injuries.

Uses a variety of techniques such as artificial respiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and first aid. Assists in cleaning and maintaining the swimming facility.

Cleans assigned areas (e.g., bathrooms, decks, locker rooms, showers, pool, etc.) according to established schedules and instructions. Performs gate control duties.

Verifies that customers are authorized to use facility by checking appropriate identification. Reports problems to appropriate personnel. Assists water safety instructor in conducting swimming lessons.

Participates in required in-service training and maintains currency, capability, and certification to perform lifesaving and water rescue, and to administer basic first aid and CPR.
