Job Description

Summary

This job supports the safe and efficient operation of a Navy shooting range, handling tasks like scheduling training sessions, managing ammunition and waste, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.

It involves administrative duties such as updating databases and reports, along with hands-on work like cleaning and disposing of spent brass.

A good fit would be someone detail-oriented with basic experience in safety procedures, who is comfortable working in a military or high-risk environment and enjoys organizing logistics.

Key Requirements

  • Knowledge of safety standards for small arms, explosives, and ammunition handling

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Apply safety standards and manuals that includes small arms, explosives, and ammo handling during training and development.

2) Monitor emergency response procedures, properly document mishaps, and commence associated investigations while executing proper procedures.

3) Assist Range Officer in establishing local safety policies/procedures in relation to facilitating training programs.

4) Provides range administration support: range scheduling, hazardous waste management, industrial hygiene compliance, small arms/range maintenance cleaning, small arms brass cleaning, and brass and debris disposal in accordance with policies and procedures.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will collect and update information in a Range Facility Management Scheduler database or similar database.
  • You will develop training related schedules or reports using automated systems.
  • You will schedule required training to track requirements and maintain records for employees.
  • You will compose administrative directives, reports, and records contributing to the efficiency of the division operations.
  • You will perform small arms brass gleaning to ensure no live rounds remain, certifying brass as inert and disposing of it per guidelines and applicable safety procedures.
  • You will serve as Safety Officer as needed and supports ammunition loading/offloading.
  • You will ensure proper handling, storage, security, and reporting of all small arms munitions.
