Job Description

Summary

This job involves inspecting and ensuring the quality of welding and testing on ships and submarines at a naval shipyard in Hawaii, focusing on non-destructive methods to check for defects without damaging parts.

You'll review documents, oversee inspections, and make sure everything meets safety and technical standards.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-09 level (for GS-11) or GS-11 level (for GS-12) in quality assurance for ship or submarine repairs
  • Knowledge of nondestructive testing (NDT) methods including Visual Dimensional (VT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Ultrasonic (UT), Radiographic (RT), and Eddy Current (ET)
  • Ability to interpret technical work documents, blueprints, deficiency reports, and procedures
  • Experience conducting quality assurance assessments and surveillances of NDT operations
  • Familiarity with NAVSEA requirements and shipyard processes for overhaul, conversion, or repair
  • Skills in reporting and evaluating inspection results for product conformity
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain necessary security clearance for naval work

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist (QAS) in the Quality Assurance Department, Code 130, of the Welding Engineering and Nondestructive Test Division of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Salary Range: GS-11: $77,964 - $101,359 GS-12: $93,445 - $121,482 GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector overseeing quality assurance surveillance or assessments by developing and implementing quality assurance nondestructive test plans and projects in support of the overhaul, conversion, or repair of ships or submarines, and related equipment.

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector conducting quality assurance assessments and surveillances of nondestructive testing operations and analyzing the results in support of the overhaul, conversion, or repair of ships or submarines and related equipment.

  • You will interpret technical work documents (TWD), task group instructions (TGI), deficiency logs (DL), deficiency reports (DR), technical requirements, shop processes/procedures and blueprint drawings to accomplish NDT inspections.
  • You will serve as the Code 138 technical expert for assigned NDT methods in Visual Dimensional (VT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Ultrasonic (UT) Radiographic (RT), or Eddy Current (ET) inspections.
  • You will ensure quality and technical oversight of assigned Nondestructive Test (NDT) inspections are accomplished by the Shipyard per NAVSEA requirements and written procedures.
  • You will provide assurance of product conformity to technical requirements to include reporting and evaluation of discontinuities.
  • You will ensure the accuracy of technical work documents and technical guidance as assigned within the Test Examiner Branch.
