Job Description

Summary

This job involves checking and improving the quality of work at a naval shipyard, especially for submarines, by performing audits, reviewing processes, and ensuring everything meets safety standards.

You'll work with teams to spot issues, recommend fixes, and track progress to keep ships reliable and ready.

It's a good fit for someone with experience in quality control in manufacturing or engineering, who is detail-oriented and comfortable communicating with all levels of staff.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-11 level or equivalent, including conducting audits of shipyard functions and work packages for product quality and reliability
  • Knowledge of quality assurance principles, production management, inspection, and quality control processes to evaluate work, materials, and methods
  • Ability to assemble procedures and specifications, develop audit plans and schedules, report on audits, and establish responsibilities for corrective actions
  • Experience reporting and discussing audit findings with shipyard personnel and management, and reviewing replies to audit findings
  • Proficiency in performing audits within NAVSEA criteria to support the Submarine Safety Certification Program (SUBSAFE) and ship readiness
  • Skills in maintaining records of audit data, analyzing trends from successive audits, and conducting planned and ad hoc audits
  • Familiarity with administering NAVSEA special emphasis program audits

Full Job Description

You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPECIALIST in the Nuclear Inspection Division, Quality Assurance Office of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience conducting planned and on the spot audits of shipyard functions and/or work packages related to the quality and reliability of products.

Experience utilizing knowledge of Quality Assurance principles and practices, production management, inspection, and quality control processes to evaluate work, material, and methods.

Experience assembling procedures and specifications, developing audit plans and schedules, reporting on audits, establishing responsibilities for corrective actions, and reporting status of all related actions.

Experience reporting and discussing audit findings with all levels of shipyard personnel and management and reviewing audit-finding replies.

Experience performing audits within NAVSEA criteria to maintain the Submarine Safety Certification Program (SUBSAFE) and ship readiness.
