Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing the quality of welding processes in a naval ship repair facility, where you'll inspect work, analyze data to spot problems, and suggest fixes to ensure everything meets standards during ship overhauls and repairs.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a QUALITY ASSURANCE SPEC (MATERIALS & PROCESSES) in the WELDING ENGINEERING DIVISION of PSNS and IMF.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: performing Quality Assurance (QA) surveillances or audits of welding processes and techniques to identify negative trends or non-compliance and recommend corrective actions for support of ship overhaul, conversion or repair.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will conduct evaluations for the welding shop using Quality Performance System (QPS) data, Deficiency reports, Discrepancy Logs, Audit Action records, and other inspection Verification Reports in support of process improvement programs.
  • You will conduct program compliance surveillances; plans, schedules, and conduct studies to evaluate and recommend ways to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work or training operations, and program effectiveness.
  • You will analyze, validate, and identify ways to improve the function and activities associated with QA data collection.
  • You will make recommendations on appropriate actions to resolve instances of program non-compliance and reverse adverse trends based on the required welding knowledge and monthly worksite surveillances.
  • You will be responsible for projects, studies, reviews, shop quality analyst (SQA) interface, welding supervisor interface, and investigations to resolve welding shop management issues or concerns.
