Full Job Description

Under immediate supervision, is responsible for checking in all items returned through the book drop and Central crates; performs general clerical work. Exercises no supervision.

Work Location
Central Library; 600 Soledad St., San Antonio, TX (78205).

Work Hours
Work hours vary; Saturday - Friday workweek with required evenings and weekends.

Requirements

Receives, sorts, delivers, and processes incoming and outgoing mail and incoming records; sort library material and place books in order.Answers telephones, greets and assists internal customer.

May calculate appropriate postage using a variety of equipment and software applications.Checks in all items that have been pulled for router.Prepares and attaches all forms required by the U. S.

Postal Service in accordance with postal regulations (i.e., certified, registered, and insured mail.).Inspects mail to assure addressing meets minimum requirements.Answers telephones, greets and assists the public, and maintains files by departments operating office equipment.May pick up and deliver supplies, parts, and materials.May inspect and clean vehicles and work area.May process requests for records and microfilm copies.Locates and retrieves stored records for information as requested, may require lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.May issue permits, licenses, applications, and certificates of occupancy.May collect permit and license fees; responsible for running holds report.

May perform basic clerical accounting duties, to include preparing and submitting cash turn-in reports.Prepares records for microfilming and disposal.Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).

  • One (1) year clerical experience; Or completion of the SA: Ready to Work: Industries Finance/Insurance or Healthcare or Professional Services/Other training program.

    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks for self and others.
    • Knowledge of general office and mailroom procedures.

      One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.

      One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

    • Applicants selected for employment with the City of San Antonio in this position must receive satisfactory results from pre-employment drug testing and background checks. If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
