Summary

About the Position: Serves as a Public Safety Telecommunicator (Office Automation) for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders, monitoring alarms and activating Mass Notification Systems in Army Garrison Public Safety Answering Points/911 Centers.

This announcement will be used to fill multiple positions at various locations. Pay will be set based on locality of position.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls for police, fire, medical or ambulance assistance; 2) Dispatching emergency personnel AND vehicles; AND 3) Operating automated systems, emergency dispatching and communications equipment.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the Federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist.

A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Decision Making Manages and Organizes Information Technical Competence Major Duties:

  • Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment.
  • Provide initial incident command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene.
  • Responsible for caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call.
  • Identify nature of emergency, level of response required based on local protocols, and provide any additional information to the responding units.
  • Monitor computerized fire alarm system and other alarm systems such as Joint Capabilities Integration Development System (IDIDS) alarm systems.
  • Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response.
  • Operate Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD) system, telephones, radios, and station alert systems.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies.
