Job Description

Summary

Full Job Description

The person in this position will manage media relations as directed by the State Superintendent or supervisor.

Work with print and broadcast journalists to cast the agency in a positive light; respond to media queries; conduct media interviews (print, radio, TV); arrange media interviews for the State Superintendent (print, radio, TV); pitch story ideas to reporters; write/send media advisories to promote speaking events for the Superintendent; and write/send press releases to the media.

Manage social media strategy and accounts.

Work collaboratively with communications team and other divisions to maintain consistent agency messaging and develop long-range communications plans/campaigns aligned with agency priorities.

Perform other duties as assigned and directed by the State Superintendent or supervisor.

Plan and execute visual coverage for major events, announcements, and campaigns, including direct on-site photo and video capture, produce edited video packages, and manage post-production timelines.

Collaborate across divisions to identify stories and transform them into high quality visual narratives for media, web, and social platforms.


This position is located in the Office of Communications.

Requirements

A bachelor's degree and relevant experience.

Qualifications

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in development and dissemination of informational materials, communications, advocacy or public policy with progressively increasing management responsibility. Strong hands-on experience as an event photographer, videographer, and video editor, including capturing, producing, and editing content for public and media use (portfolio or work samples strongly preferred).

Additional Information

Minimal overnight travel may be required.
