This job involves gathering and sharing information about the activities of the Kansas Army National Guard to keep the public informed through writing, meetings, and media.

Full Job Description

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D1167000 and is part of the KS Joint Forces Headquarters, National Guard.

Military Grades: E-7 through E-9 or O-1 through O-4 Compatible Military Assignments: Officer: 46A, 46X 35XX Enlisted: 46Q, 46Z 3NXXX GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training in administrative, professional, investigative and/or technical work.

Experience evaluating information and/or using analytical skills to disseminate effective communication.

Experience in compiling reports, letters, memoranda, etc., and required person-to-person contacts to convey information. Experience using computers and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level.

Experience, education, or training involving knowledge of writing, communication principles, methods and techniques that relate to the public affairs of an agency.

Experience in applying and adapting knowledge of strictly controlled situations of an agency. Experience writing articles on routine events of non-controversial subjects.

Experience responding timely and appropriately to requests for information concerning agency programs and services.

Experience participating in meetings with specialized groups to listen to and understand feedback on agency programs that are of particular interest to public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Duties are performed in an office setting, in news conferences, briefings, meetings, etc. The incumbent may travel occasionally to perform UPAR assistance visits and/or inspections.

However, there are no special physical demands involved in performing the work of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT The position's operating environment involves everyday risks or discomforts associated with a climate controlled office or equivalent setting. Major Duties:

As a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST, GS-1035-09, you will collect, assemble, prepare and disseminate information concerning the various activities of the state's NG. Perform other duties as assigned.

This position is located in the Joint Force Headquarters -State, Personal Staff, Public Affairs Office (PAO).
